October 29, 2009: Veterans Day: GovBenefits.gov Spotlights Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC) for Military Retirees
In the spirit of Veterans Day,
GovBenefits.gov is spotlighting
Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC), a program which helps military retirees receive compensation for their sacrifices.
If you’re a military retiree currently receiving compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for a combat-related disability or condition, you may also be eligible to receive an amount equal to or less than the combined total of your VA Disability Compensation and your length of service retirement pay.
The CRSC program exists to restore the military retired pay that is offset when a military retiree accepts compensation from the VA for a combat-related disability or condition.
CRSC is available to retirees within each military branch. To qualify, retirees must meet three basic criteria:
- Retiree is currently receiving military retired pay.
- Retiree has had their military retired pay reduced by VA-disability payments (VA Waiver).
- Retiree has a 10 percent or greater VA-rated disability that can be linked to a combat-related event through official military documentation (combat-related injuries are defined as those that are a result of armed conflict, hazardous duty, an instrumentality of war or training that simulates war).
